Effective November 23, 2015 drivers that work for TNC, also known as a ride-sharing service such as Uber and Lyft will be able to buy coverage to protect them and their vehicle while they are waiting to be notified to pick up a ride.
This is new coverage. Earlier this year, Mercury Insurance amended their policy to more clearly define and exclude coverage under the base auto policy for TNC usage. Including situations where the insured was signed on to the application platform to initiate the process, but had not yet picked up a passenger.
This coverage is available for new policy’s on or after November 23, 2015. If you are currently insured with Mercury Insurance and your policy renews on or after November 23, 2015, you can buy back the coverage during the period when your TNC app has been turned on and you are available to pick up a ride. There is still no coverage available while you have a passenger in the vehicle. Call us for a quote or for more detailed information (714)435-4051.
